Winston-Salem is home to North Carolina’s oldest Moravian settlement, Bethabara, founded in 1753 (1). God’s Acre is the most common name for Moravian church burial grounds, with their teachings impacting a unique cemetery layout. There are two primary God’s Acres in Winston-Salem, the historic Bethabara, and, Salem God’s Acre, the largest in the state, containing over 6,000 graves and still in active use by all 13 churches in the area (2).
